Cheap Car Repair shows the wild reality of running a car garage in a post-communist small town
Polish countryside, second-hand cars held together with hope, and mechanics who could fix almost anything with whatever parts happened to be available. Cheap Car Repair takes players back to 1990s Poland – a country going through the chaotic transition from communism to capitalism, where creativity and resourcefulness put the „free” in „free market”. The launch trailer is available ahead of launch. The game will hit Steam on May 28th.
Set in the heart of a gritty post-communist countryside, the game puts players in charge of a small garage struggling to survive in difficult times. Money is tight, customers expect miracles for next to nothing, and every repair becomes a battle between honesty, creativity, and profit.
In this world, spare parts are always „somewhere nearby” – any piece of metal can be adjusted to fit, repairs should preferably be done immediately, and if the car leaves the workshop in one piece that usually counts as success. Cheap Car Repair is a humorous mechanic simulator inspired by the everyday absurdities of the early post-communist era – a time when improvisation wasn’t just useful, but necessary.
Cheap Car Repair recreates the atmosphere of 1990s former communist block, where local car garages became unofficial community hubs and mechanics were forced to invent solutions to problems nobody really knew how to solve properly yet. Missing parts? Something else will fit. The customer doesn’t understand cars? Even better. Rust showing through the bodywork? Fresh paint might help – at least until the next rain.
The game offers players complete freedom, but every choice comes with consequences. You can run an honest workshop… or focus purely on making money. Some decisions may only hurt your wallet, while others could end with angry customers showing up outside your garage. You thought you were creative with their car? They’ll show you what real imagination does when people are mad.
Players will face a wide range of repair jobs – from quick oil changes to major engine work. Every task becomes a new story and another opportunity to test both mechanical skills and creative problem-solving.
